Power Options for Motorized Shades

Most popular

Rechargeable battery wand

A popular wire-free power option, the rechargeable battery wand eliminates the need to regularly replace disposable batteries. When the battery needs charging, connect it to a compatible charger or use the Dual Charging Station for removable wands. Charging frequency varies based on shade size, configuration and how often the shade operates.

New innovation

Solar Charger

The Hunter Douglas Solar Charger helps maintain the charge of a compatible rechargeable battery using available daylight—even in lower-light conditions. It’s a convenient option for reducing manual charging, particularly for high or hard-to-reach motorized shades.

Full home automation

Hardwired Power for New Construction & Renovations

Planning a new home or major renovation? Hardwired motorized shades can be incorporated during the electrical planning phase, providing continuous power without visible battery wands or routine charging. Night & Day Decor can coordinate the window treatment requirements with your project team during planning.

Most economical

SoftTouch® Motorization

The most intuitive and user-friendly wand-controlled motorized shades. Raise and lower your shades with a quick touch-and-go at the individual window.

Whole-Home Motorized Window Treatment Systems

Motorization can extend beyond a single shade or room. Night & Day Decor designs whole-home motorized window treatment systems for Toronto homeowners, coordinating compatible shades, drapery, controls and power options throughout the home.

For new construction and major renovations, early planning allows our team to coordinate hardwired power and automation requirements with designers, builders and electricians. For existing homes, rechargeable and other wire-free options make it possible to add smart window treatments without opening walls.

Hear from our Clients

“I am over the moon thrilled with the Hunter Douglas blinds we ordered from Night and Day Window Decor.

From start to finish the experience was spot on. The initial meeting with Corrine on site was seamless and professional. All the coordination behind the scenes with Jenn was perfect. The blinds were just installed and they have exceeded my expectations and the app is so fantastic. So they look stunning and the functions are off the charts. The installer, Mark, was brilliant. He was professional, efficient, coached me on how to use the app, and personable.

This is a 5+ star experience and product.”

Window Treatment Motorization FAQ

Do motorized shades require WiFi?

No. Motorized shades can be operated without WiFi using options such as a compatible remote control or SoftTouch® Motorization. WiFi and a PowerView® Gateway are used when you want to connect compatible PowerView® shades with the app, voice control or supported smart home systems.

How are motorized shades powered?

Motorized shades can be powered in several ways depending on the window treatment and installation. Options may include AA batteries, a rechargeable battery wand, a compatible solar charger for the rechargeable battery wand, or hardwired power. Night & Day Decor can help determine the best power option for individual windows or a whole-home motorized shade system.

Can existing homes have motorized shades?

Yes. Motorized shades can be added to existing Toronto homes without requiring new electrical wiring in many installations. Rechargeable and battery-powered options make motorization possible without opening walls, while hardwired systems can be considered during larger renovations.

Can motorized shades connect to a smart home system?

Yes. Hunter Douglas PowerView® Automation can integrate with compatible smart home systems, allowing you to coordinate your motorized shades with other connected features in your home. Depending on your setup, shades can be controlled through the PowerView® App, schedules, scenes or compatible voice assistants.

Can I motorize all the shades in my home?

Many Hunter Douglas window shades can be ordered with motorization, making it possible to design a coordinated whole-home system. Compatibility depends on the product, window size and configuration, so each room can be planned with the appropriate window treatment, motor, power source and controls.

Are motorized shades good for large or hard-to-reach windows?

Yes. Motorization is especially useful for large, tall and hard-to-reach windows because shades can be adjusted without manually accessing the window. Multiple motorized shades can also be grouped for convenient control, making PowerView® Automation a practical option for large windows and multi-window spaces.
