White drapery with white roller shades, in a Cabbagetown interior

Owner of this downtown condo were looking for a stylish way to maximize light in their living room, but also block most of it when needed. Light-filtering sunscreen type roller shades took care of the daytime privacy requirement, while floor to ceiling ripplefold drapery added the finishing touch to an already stylish space, as well as providing room-darkening when necessary. The layering of a roller window shade with lined drapery also helps with blocking the noise from the busy downtown street.

Upper Beach family room with textured flat-style roman shades

In this project, the homeowner’s wish was to find a window treatment with lots of texture and in earthy tones. Kristy helped narrow down the choices from a wide variety of window shade styles with those features, keeping pratical needs for cutting down glare for TV viewing and privacy. Final choice were automated flat-style roman shades, from the exclusive Alustra collection of fabrics.

Bedroom window shades for all generations

Sleeping in a well-darkened room is incredibly important for everyone’s health. Kristy was called in to help 3 generations in this home select the right room-darkening window shade or blackout-lined drapery. Blackout-lined drapery to the floor is ideal, but not always possible, due to furniture placement such as desks. In those situations, going above the window trim and mounting a room darkening roman shade at least as wide as the window trim, is the next best option.
