Every piece of decor you choose for your home is a nod to your personality. From throw pillows to picture frames and everything in between, your home is a reflection of you. Window treatments are often overlooked when it comes to searching for decor pieces that fit your style. But, we’re here to show you how your window covering options can transform your atmosphere and show off your taste. Take a look!
Soft Treatments vs. Hard Treatments
There are two categories of window covering options: soft and hard. Soft treatments are made from fabrics and soft materials, while hard treatments can be crafted from wood, metal, vinyl, and composite materials. There are quite a few different soft window treatment options to choose from. Let’s get into the details…
Fabrics for Soft Treatments
After deciding on a shade style, you’ll pick a fabric:
Patterns, Solids, and Prints: This type of fabric is best for areas that need full coverage. Which space in your home could use the most privacy or light blocking?
Sheer: Available for both vertical and horizontal shades, sheer fabric allows you to diffuse incoming light while maintaining your view.
Woven: Earthy, organic, and so gorgeous! Woven fabrics can be cloth, bamboo, wood, or other natural fibers. The woven textures create stunning dimension.
Opacity
Each room in your home has unique needs. Some spaces need more privacy, while others need more light. The opacity of your shades will determine how much light enters, as well as how much privacy you get. Some collections of fabrics have both light filtering and room darkening selections to choose from. Other collections offer a rating scale, where 0% means that the shade is view-through, allowing for ample light to enter. 100% refers to light blocking and extra privacy. Choose your desired opacity along a range that will fit each space best!
Soft Treatments: Operating Features
Next, consider how you want your shade to function. Do you want it to roll into the headrail or stack? What about extra insulation? We also have a dual shade system to give you ultimate control over light and privacy. Unsure? Let our designers help you decide.
Hard Window Covering Options
As mentioned, hard coverings are made from structured materials, like wood, metal, vinyl, and composites. We refer to these as “the furniture of the window,” and the two most popular options are blinds and shutters.
Materials & Finishes
Having durable window treatments is just as important as the control they provide. We encourage our clients to think about each room and choose finishes that will last. Ask us about our warranties for warping, yellowing, and cracking. We take pride in our Hunter Douglas products—they are treated with finishes that are built to last.
Hard Treatments: Operating Features
Shutters and blinds are typically adjusted by hand. Blinds may feature a wand that hangs along the front. We also have options for automated blinds that control the tilt of the slats. Shutters have louvers that can be adjusted manually. Another great option for tech lovers is our Palm Beach collection, which features motorized shutters.
The Effect of Layering
Our top priority is always giving our clients full control over their atmosphere, but we also encourage creativity in their design. Choosing the right window treatments means finding the right color, texture, and dimension for your personal style. Layering treatments is a fantastic way to show off your personality. Mix, Match, and Coordinate!
We’re often asked if it’s okay to mix and match different shades. Of course it is! We know that each room might need a little something different. The key is coordination. Our designers know all about this, so you don’t have to do it alone. Reach out to our team at Night & Day Decor today to schedule your FREE consultation.
